Major Focus Areas for Targeted State Survey

Hello Everyone, 

I know you all are going through a lot with the COVID-19 pandemic. Hang in there and know that your staff is looking up to you for comfort and reassurance. In the previous post, I mentioned that States are conducting a COVID-19 focus survey. Since then, I have heard back from a few facilities that have gone through that survey. Based on their feedback, I have compiled a list of the major areas that State is focused on in these series of Surveys.

List of the major focus areas for the targeted COVID-19 State Survey:

1. COVID-19 Policy and Procedures

2. Staff Competency on the use of PPE on patients with Positive COVID-19

3. Staff education on COVID-19, use of PPE, timely assessment and identification of patients with Positive COVID-19  

4. Appropriate use of PPE

5. Cohorting practice

6. COVID-19 QAPI

7. Care Planning for a patient with Positive COVID-19

8. Employee Competency on the use of PPE for patients with Positive COVID-19

Use this list as a starting guideline to evaluate your procedures and practices to ensure that you are in compliance with State & Federal requirements.
