CMS Recommendations: Caring for a Dementia Resident with COVID-19

More than 65% of nursing home and assisted living residents have some type of dementia diagnosis (CMS, 2020). With the cognitive impairment associated with dementia, it is challenging for the caregivers to provide adequate care even under normal circumstances.

In order to minimize these challenges during this COVID-19 pandemic, CMS has provided recommendations on ways to control the spread of COVID-19 amongst the most fragile and vulnerable nursing home and assisted living residents with dementia.

Using these recommendations, I have developed an AUDIT TOOL to help you evaluate your policy and procedures in caring for dementia residents with COVID-19.

Use this CARING FOR A DEMENTIA RESIDENT WITH COVID-19 AUDIT TOOL to ensure that you are in compliance with CMS recommendations.
