Six Ways to Help Minimize and or Avoid the Spread of Hospital-Acquired Coronavirus.
Recently, a patient in a nursing home and a resident in an assisted living facility, tested positive for the #COVID-19 after hospitalization.
The COVID-19 pandemic is flooding patients to the hospital, beyond the hospital’s capacity. The hospital overflow is forcing the hospitals to discharge patients that do not require acute care to create room for the coronavirus victims.
The following tips may help you to prevent the spread of coronavirus from patients who are admitted or re-admitted from the hospital.
Request the hospital to send you a current Negative coronavirus text before discharge.
If you have a text kit, repeat the text as soon as the patient arrives at the facility.
Put the patient in a private room or a designated unit for the new admissions for 14 days.
Repeat the COVID-19 text for four to five days if you have the test kit.
Monitor the patient’s temperature and other signs and symptoms of COVID-19 for at least five-days post-admission ( as COVID-19 can emerge 4-5 days after contact with an infected person).
Continue to educate the staff on Proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and overall infection prevention and control program.
Hang in there, guys.
